1. What The Record is

The Record lets you make predictions with people you know, inside private groups called Leagues, and tracks who turns out to be right. Getting a prediction right earns you one point. That point has no value, cannot be bought, sold, traded, or exchanged for anything, and does not represent money or property.

2. This is not gambling

For bragging rights only. No money, ever. In full:

• There is no real money anywhere in The Record.
• There is no virtual currency, no chips, no tokens, no credits.
• There are no odds, no house, and no payouts.
• Nothing of value is ever wagered through the app.
• Points are a score. They cannot be cashed out or transferred.

The Record does not facilitate betting or gambling and is not a gambling service.

Whatever you agree to between yourselves is your business

People sometimes attach a real-world stake to a friendly bet — the loser buys coffee, does the dishes, and so on. If you do that, it happens entirely outside The Record. The app never records, processes, enforces, or knows about it. Any such arrangement is solely between you and the other people involved, and you are responsible for ensuring it is lawful where you live. Do not use The Record to organise anything involving money or anything of value.

3. Who can use it

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use The Record only with a parent or guardian's involvement. One account per person. You are responsible for what happens on your account.

4. How bets work

These rules are enforced by the app, and knowing them avoids surprises:

• A bet has a lock time (after which nobody new can join or pick) and an event date (when the outcome should be known).
• After you submit a pick you have 30 seconds to change it. Then it's final — even if the bet hasn't locked yet.
• Before a bet locks, others see only how many people chose each option, not who chose what.
• The person who created a bet calls the outcome. If they haven't done so 24 hours after the event date, any participant can.
• Any other participant can challenge a call within 24 hours. A challenge puts it to a vote of the whole League for 24 hours. A simple majority of votes cast decides it, and a tie leaves the original call standing.
• If nobody calls a bet within 7 days of its event date, it is voided — no points to anyone, and nobody's record is affected.
• A bet can only be cancelled while its creator is the only participant.

Outcomes are decided by the people in your League, not by us. We don't adjudicate who was right and we won't referee your disagreements.

5. Leagues

• Whoever creates a League is its admin, and can remove members, rename it, or delete it.
• If an admin leaves, admin passes automatically to the longest-standing remaining member.
• Leagues hold up to 25 members.
• If you leave a League, your past results stay on its record so other members' standings remain accurate.
• Anyone with a League's invite link can join it. Admins can regenerate the link if it gets out.
• Photos added to a League's bets stay with those bets if you leave. Whoever added a photo, or a League admin, can delete it.

6. Your content and conduct

You own what you write and the photos you add. You give us the limited permission needed to store them and show them to the people described in the Privacy Policy — nothing more. We don't use your content for anything else.

A photo on a bet is seen by everyone in that League. Only add photos you have the right to share, of people who are fine being in them.

Don't:

• Harass, threaten, bully, or abuse anyone.
• Post hateful, sexual, violent, or illegal content.
• Impersonate someone else.
• Post a photo of someone who wouldn't want it there.
• Use the app to organise anything involving money, property, or anything of value.
• Use it for anything illegal.
• Scrape it, attack it, or try to get around its access rules.
• Create bets that target or endanger a real person.

The app filters obviously offensive language in handles, League names, and bet questions, and you can report a person, a League, a bet or a photo, and block anyone from their profile. Blocking is mutual: you disappear from each other everywhere in the app.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules. For serious cases we may do so without warning.

7. Notifications

Notifications are optional and can be turned off entirely, or by category, in Settings.

8. Ending things

You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Account → Delete account. What is deleted and what is kept is described in the Privacy Policy — in short, your identity is erased but your picks on already-settled bets remain, anonymised, so other people's records stay accurate.

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks these terms.

9. The app is provided as-is

The Record is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. We don't promise it will always be available, that notifications will always arrive, or that it will be free of bugs. It's a small app run by one person.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any dispute between you and another user — including anything you agreed to outside the app. Our total liability to you will not exceed CAD $100.

Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this may not apply to you.

11. Changes

We may update these terms. We'll update the date at the top. If a change affects what you agreed to, we'll ask you to review it in the app. The app records which version you accepted.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be heard in the courts of Ontario, unless local consumer law gives you the right to bring a claim where you live.
